How to Create Audio Notes on an iPhone: 10 Steps (with Pictures)

You can quickly record any sound on your iPhone using the Voice Memos app, whether it be an interview, a reminder to yourself or a lecture, and share it via email or attached to a message.
STEPS

1
TAP THE VOICE MEMOS ICON ON YOUR IPAD’S HOME SCREEN TO LAUNCH THE VOICE MEMOS APP.

2
TAP THE RECORD BUTTON AND SPEAK INTO THE MICROPHONE ON YOUR IPHONE, LOCATED AT THE BOTTOM OF THE DEVICE.

3
YOU CAN PAUSE THE RECORDING BY TAPPING THE RED PAUSE BUTTON. Now tap the Stop button to stop recording.

4
TAP THE BUTTON TO THE RIGHT OF THE VU METER TO VIEW YOUR RECORDING LIST.

5
YOUR RECORDING APPEARS AT THE TOP OF THE LIST AND BEGINS PLAYING. Tap the blue circle with a white arrow in it to the right of your recording.

6
TAP THE SPACE AT THE TOP OF THE SCREEN THAT APPEARS.

7
TAP A LABEL FROM THE LIST THAT APPEARS OR TAP CUSTOM AND ENTER YOUR OWN LABEL. Tap the Info button.

8
ON THE INFO SCREEN, TAP THE TRIM MEMO BUTTON.

9
DRAG EITHER END OF THE YELLOW SELECTION TO SET THE START AND END POINTS OF YOUR RECORDING. Tap the Play button to listen to the trimmed section. When you are done, tap the Trim Voice Memo button.

10
TAP THE SHARE BUTTON ON THE INFO SCREEN AND TAP EMAIL OR MESSAGE TO SHARE YOUR RECORDING.
TIPS
To check that your microphone is ready for recording, you can tap the microphone image on screen and watch the VU meter needle jump, just like a real microphone. Saying “Is this thing on?” is optional.
For a better quality recording, plug in your iPhone’s headphones and use the in-line microphone
WARNINGS
Try to avoid letting the VU meter needle move into the red region. This means your recording is too loud and may distort.
If you can’t find the Voice Memos app, it is located in the Utilities folder on your iPhone by default.
